Ready to turn your crochet skills into something adorable?

The Introduction to Amigurumi Class is designed for crocheters who are comfortable working in the round and are ready to explore the art of creating three-dimensional stuffed crochet projects.

Amigurumi is the technique commonly used to crochet stuffed animals, characters, dolls, and other three-dimensional creations. In this hands-on class, you’ll learn the fundamental techniques used in amigurumi while working through a small beginner-friendly project.

We’ll focus not only on crocheting the individual pieces, but also on the techniques that help give finished amigurumi projects their shape, personality, and polished appearance.

Prerequisites

Students should already be comfortable with:

  • Chain Stitch
  • Slip Stitch
  • Single Crochet
  • Magic Circle
  • Working in Continuous Rounds
  • Increases & Decreases
  • Counting Stitches
  • Using Stitch Markers

Students who are not yet comfortable working in continuous rounds or using a magic circle are encouraged to complete the Crocheting in the Round Class before taking this class.

  • Invisible Decreases — Learning a popular amigurumi technique for creating cleaner, less noticeable decreases.
  • Stuffing & Shaping — Learning how much stuffing to use, when to add it, and how stuffing placement can affect the shape and appearance of your finished project.
  • Attaching & Positioning Pieces — Learning how to position arms, legs, ears, and other pieces before attaching them for a balanced finished project.
  • Basic Amigurumi Assembly — Practicing techniques for securely sewing crocheted pieces together and neatly finishing your work.
  • Finishing & Weaving in Ends — Learning how to securely finish yarn ends so they disappear neatly into your project.
